(The following is a true success story involving a student in Iowa and AEA employees.) Jordan was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a bus on a city street. After he received initial medical treatment for his many injuries, AEA staff evaluated Jordan’s needs relating to his brain injury. Then they worked with his parents and school staff to provide interventions for him. Jordan has received ongoing evaluations and consultation with his parents, physician, teachers and other care givers to provide an appropriate program to meet his medical, emotional, memory and academic needs. He has made great gains in all of his skills since his accident a few years ago. He no longer needs intensive special education services; he is now enrolled in all general education classes with minimal support. He was recently recognized as a student of the month in his local school.
