Hopefully by now you have explored the professional development opportunities available to you from the new AEA PD Online site. If not, please take some time today to visit the site, browse the courses and learn more about the system.
We encourage you to take advantage of the online courses from Iowa’s AEAs through AEA PD Online. Online courses fit better in busy schedules, provide a 21st century learning experience, embedded with digital resources and self-directed activity, mixed with digital collaboration with classmates. And they save on the cost of gas!
AEA PD Online also offers 17 dynamic training opportunities for educators. AEA PD Online’s trainings are self-directed learning opportunities that help meet employment and licensure requirements. This includes trainings such as the Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse and Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens.
In an effort to better serve districts, AEA PD Online will add 5-10 new trainings throughout each year, including areas such as technology integration, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, and copyright infringement and Fair Use policy, among other trainings requested by districts. To meet these needs, which require additional instructional design support, the AEAs must fund these endeavors. In order to keep progress moving forward, this means some changes for educators and districts.
Beginning July 1 there will be changes to fees for online trainings that will affect both educators and districts.
Effective July 1, 2011
- There will now be a $25 charge for educators to complete the Mandatory Reporter training. Educators are required to complete the Mandatory Reporter training once every five years for re-licensure.
- There will also be a charge of 50 cents per student (based on certified enrollment) for a district to have access to the other online trainings on the system.
- AEAs will also be contributing $100,000 to help fund the online training system and keep costs low for districts and educators.
AEA PD Online is dedicated to providing quality professional development opportunities for Iowa educators and administrators and will continue to provide cost efficient online trainings.
