Alignment of the Iowa Core is a complex process that involves the alignment of the Iowa Core (curriculum) to how it is taught (instruction) to how it is assessed. Understanding the Core deeply involves grade level discussions which must occur both horizontally (within the same grade level--from teacher to teacher) and vertically (across different grade levels). Alignment horizontally is to ensure that all children have the same opportunity to learn the same curriculum and to ensure that all of the Iowa Core for that grade level is being taught to all. Alignment vertically is to avoid gaps and redundancies in the K-12 Curriculum. For further conversation on the alignment process, please contact the AEA Regional Administrator assigned to your district.
